Lava Chapel

2023

This assembly draws inspiration from Le Corbusier’s iconic Saint Pierre Chapel. His masterful sculptural architecture and manipulation of light left an indelible mark on my creative version.

Transforming this canonical architecture into an otherworldly environment — a volcanic island in this case — I sought to overlay a new aesthetic to the old chapel. The unique elements including the Bryce Canyon rock, the red mushroom, the flying Totoro, and the slime wagon, possess individual identities yet share a subtle connection to the architectural roots. This assembly is a fusion of the chapel and the volcanic elements. It is not merely a dream inspired by Le Corbusier; rather, it is a manifestation of my unique dreamscape.
