Floating Island

In crafting this miniature assembly, I was amazed by Palladio’s Villa Rotonda and was exploring whether I could bring the playful language into the classical realm. The design journey began with the “Cherry on top” — the villa itself, and then gradually expanded the language downwards to shape the entire floating island.
Besides the Rotonda, I get inspiration from Palladio’s Basilica, the enchanting French garden, and the ancient European Castles. I set out to reimagine these architectural wonders in a modern, rounded, elegant form. The bug inspiration came into play when I was testing different shapes of the roof. I got drawn into this idea of having incredibly light creatures holding and maneuvering the heaviest ancient structure — a harmonious dance between lightness and historic grandeur.

Venture deeper into the enchanting realm atop the floating island, where each intricate detail narrates a tale. Drawing inspiration from Palladio’s Villa Rotonda, an elegant white castle and lush labyrinthine gardens emerge, adorned with whimsical insect shapes. Together, they weave a timeless cityscape suspended in the skies.
