Individual Work
What if Beinecke Rare Book Library is a Frankenstein of many playful objects. When I studied Enric Miralle’s architectural drawing, I explored how to make them into playful objects with plastic quality and could interact with people in a fun way. The hatches of the drawing become capsules of the rare books that could open up when you get close. The animated drawings are projected on the flat surface as displacement texture, and further evolved into the architectural façade that could display information of the books. And the figures in the drawing become soft and inflatable bubbles that lift the entire library and fill the ground. Finally, these pieces are fused together within the exact same size of the original Beinecke and painted with color. The exterior of Beinecke becomes a playground for kids, and in the interior, you will see the happy rare books tumbling around.
