Individual Work
The grotto represents the very core of architecture, the need for an obscure inner force that refuses, opposes and counters the most transparency and lightness but capture specific scene and brightness. This project proposed to repeat this process of morphogenesis to imitate the same experience in architecture. The units are separated into upper-layer and under-layer and grow towards the in-between layer. Some of the units join together to support the structure and circulation while others with trapezoid form fit into different programs. The design seeks to reshape the look and feel of the open space in campus. The relationship between massing and environment was reorganized. The building itself does not have a clear form and somehow disappear in the landscape, becoming part of the landform. And most importantly, it creates hill-like public space in shadow and comfort with organized light changing and scenes collaging.
